THE EARTH TAKES ANOTHER HIT

WASHINGTON, Aug 1 (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate on Tuesday voted to open 8.3 million acres in the Gulf of Mexico to oil and natural gas drilling, but contentious talks with the House of Representatives still loom.

The Senate bill, which passed 71-25, lifts a 25-year-old moratorium and allows drilling more than 125 miles off Florida's coast but bans drilling closer to shore until 2022.

It now must be reconciled with a more wide-sweeping bill passed by the House of Representatives in June that rescinds a drilling moratorium on most U.S. Atlantic and Pacific coastal waters more than 100 miles from shore.

For those who know me, I am a big supporter of saving our planet and once again, Big Business was granted the right to destroy it more. Shame, shame on them for choosing the dollar over human and animal life.

If you're really so concerned then you would stop driving your car and pick up your bike. I find that those who cry the loudest about the environment and nature are also those who still use the resources that they complain about. Do you cry about forests? I bet you still use paper! Do you cry about the atmosphere? I bet you still use spray cans, fireplace and cars! You will reply and say you dont drive, use paper or spray cans, but you know you're not being honest with yourself. I agree we need to open up ethanol production plants and other alternatives, but the US will still be dependent on oil for other applications than making gasoline. Drilling offshore is less intrusive to nature than putting a rig on shore.
