THE GAPING MAW OF STUPID

The beast has risen and shambles through the swampy night. Jesseado is talking on the mic. In Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, only one girl's poetry was worse than the Vogon Captain's: Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings. I think perhaps he spoke too soon...

This idiot is trying to convince us that every positive event in the Middle East is because of Bush. Women's rights in tatters in Iraq? Duh... Brink of civil war? ummmm... Deathtoll on the rise? whooooosh, right over her head...

There is no point in trying to get through to this troglodyte. And I'm still not convinced this isn't some giant put-on. Someone is going to jump out from the bushes one day and say "Smile, you're on Neocon Camera!" It has to be a joke. Sometimes I wonder if we shouldn't let natural selection operate a little more freely.

Ok, in all seriousness. We know animals can be trained. Some humans can also be enticed to jump through a flaming hoop for a handful of kibble. (Some will do it for free. I don't trust those people.) I'm not asking for much. I know we can't completely break down the wingnut spin that has infected Jesseado's brain. But I can't beleive that it's impossible to teach her just ONE thing. Reports are legion that women are losing their rights in Iraq, as it shifts from a secular government to a proto-Islamic Republic. Riverbend is a young woman blogger from Iraq who, over the past few years, has been harassed at work, and is losing her rights as bolder religious fundamentalists insist she be veiled and give up western clothes and attitudes.

We all know this is what is happening in Iraq, but Jes is completely unable to assimilate this fact. When you train a pet, the most vital component is to repeat the process until the learned behavior is acquired. (A pat on the head and a treat doesn't hurt.) What we need to do is to repeat to Jes over and over, "Jes, the women of Iraq are losing their rights, the women of Iraq are losing their rights, the women of Iraq are losing their......" Nothing else. Only that. Weeks may pass. But one day, and oh, what a blessed day that will be, she will sit up and say, "The women of who are in the what now?"

Sigh...
