Bobby McGee continues his anti-American tirade this evening labeling anyone opposed to Bush's "port deal" with the UAE as an "anti-arab." While Bobby looks at the issue as an economic one, most Americans agree that the issue is, in reality, a matter of national security. Bobby is so focused on defending the Arab world against the likes of Vic Ferrari (and rightfully so), he has seemingly lost his peripheral vision on all other topics concerning Arab-American relations. What Bobby fails to see in this matter is that it is inherently BAD POLICY to turn anything to do with our transportation hubs over to ANY foreign entity. While there may be an economic advantage to the UAE deal, such an agreement does not overcome the innate national security vulnerabilities found in port operations. It would be foolhardy to assign a foreign business interest a major role in US national security; if nothing else, it would create an even greater burden on NSA resources. I don't even want to surmise a worst case scenario! Then there is the question of accountability in the event of a "mishap."
The bottom line is this: Americans are best equipped to know what is in America's best interest where the nation's security is concerned. It is not prudent to rely upon virtual mercenaries to understand the whys and wherefores of protecting the United States. Perhaps Bobby needs to realize this isn't an "Arab thing;" it's well justified xenophobia in the broadest sense of the word.
