I cannot believe the statements now being made by the Bush White House on this port sale flap. The president's spokespeople are now claiming that he didn't even know about this port sale until it was already a done deal, Tell me again how we are supposed to trust Bush and the GOP on terrorism? All I can see is that they want to illegally spy on American citizens, especially those who protest. For five years the president has been administering a spying operation in direct violation of federal law, and even when lawmakers tried to make this kind of spying legal, (as DeWine tried in 2002) the DOJ rebuffed such changes.
So now we have a president who is intent on listening in on the conversations of innocent Americans, but who can't raise his head long enough to notice a possible major breach in national security like this deal with the UAE? This ignorant, incompetent, worthless president puts us in more danger with each passing day. And his attempts to grab nearly unlimited power for himself is unconscionable. Every time in the past when this nation has faced grave threats, our leaders have known that we cannot lose the freedoms we fight for in order to ensure our safety. And, let's be realistic here, fighting terrorism is important, but is it the kind of threat the USSR was during the Cold War? Can these terrorists do what Hitler and the Axis were set to do in the 40s? No, of course not. And yet this tiny, useless little president we have now is trying to convince us that we should simply trust him not to abuse the powers he is desperate to gain?
I say, "No." And more than half of the people of this country agree with me.
