As this newspaper article indicates - women were relegated to 2nd class citizens in the colonies and once married, were wholly obeisent to their men. The more liberal colonies did, indeed give their women rights the US Constitution and State Constitutions later took away, but certainly not all, least of all the Southern colonies where a more traditional political culture ruled the day.

Virginia1775 thinks by embrocating herself with a "patriotic" nickname somehow augments her prestige and fealty amongst neocon circles. Of course, we liberals are less than impressed with Virginia's chicanery. Wow, I guess then ABC is going to show a piece of shit biased movied called "the path to 9/11", this movie should really be called "the path to lies and fearmongering by republicans". I am not going to watch this trash. The truth is that Bush didn't have a single meeting with his counterterrorism team until a few days before 9/11. (Clinton had CT meetings everyday) Bush also took no action after receiving the August 6 PDB which warned that Bin Ladin was planning imminent attacks, possibly including highjacking airplanes and attacking buildings. As his CT team panicked, Bush cleared brush on his ranchlet. Clinton stopped a liquid explosive attack in '95 and the millenium bomb plot. Bush read "The Pet Goat" while 3000 people died. Clinton put the masterminds of the '93 WTC bombing in federal prison. Bush veered off the course of catching Bin Ladin to attack Iraq, fabricating a threat that did not exist, and ignoring warnings, now confirmed, that the invasion would increase the danger of terrorism. Clinton fought for legal counterterrorism tools against Republican obstructionists, Bush violated the Bill of Rights and international treaties because of his disrespect for core American values...

WHO'S NOT SERIOUS ABOUT TERRORISM AGAIN?

John over at AMERICAblog found this story from 1996. According to S_LINK90, and several other conservatives on PT, Clinton dropped the ball on terrorism, focusing more on blowjobs than bombings. They even try to blame Clinton for Bush's clear and documented negligence in the summer of 2001. Take a look at what really happened:

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Clinton urged Congress Tuesday to act swiftly in developing anti-terrorism legislation before its August recess.

"We need to keep this country together right now. We need to focus on this terrorism issue," Clinton said during a White House news conference.

But while the president pushed for quick legislation, Republican lawmakers hardened their stance against some of the proposed anti-terrorism measures.

Clinton said he knew there was Republican opposition to his proposal on explosive taggants, but it should not be allowed to block the provisions on which both parties agree.

The very law enforcement tools that Clinton was asking for might have prevented 9/11, but these Republican vipers rolled the dice with our nation's security.

And of course, this is the endless loop repeated throughout Clinton's presidency. As Clinton tried to defend this nation, Republicans were monomaniacal in their frenzied zeal to drag him down. We all remember how they chanted, "No war for Monica!" as Clinton unleashed a missile attack on our enemies. Of course, they try to pretend now that they were always sober and serious about security, but that is clearly a lie.

The funniest thing is that the Republicans in power know they're full of shit trying to blame Clinton for something their puerile machinations abetted, but S_LINK90 is so unsophisticated and naive that when they whisper in his ear that everything is Clinton's fault, he actually believes it.

THE FOG IS LIFTING

The Pentagon has issued a new report on the deteriorating situation in Iraq. Although they try to paint a smile on by claiming Iraq is not in a civil war, the facts speak for themselves. Killings in the thousands per month. Conflict that is not just based on an organized insurgency, but that is a chaotic mixture of rebels, armed Shia militias and neighborhood groups. Bombings, kidnappings, tortured bodies dumped on daylight streetcorners. Roving gun battles barely held in check by Coalition bodies.

People like Mosesknows like to smarmily ask the misguided question, "Do you want to win in Iraq, or not?" as if that is even the primary consideration. Even Waiting_for_Godot, who is a social liberal, completely misunderstands the threat we face. Most Americans, according to new polls, recognize that the war on terrorism and the war in Iraq are two distinct and separate things. Godot is like many neocons, still sunk in the fog, thinking that leaving Iraq will somehow empower terrorists. In fact, both the American people AND national security experts believe that the invasion of Iraq has made us MORE vulnerable to terrorism, for a variety of reasons.

For those, like Godot, who have been blinded by fear or anger, and who have been twirled around by Bush's lies and conservative propaganda, it may not be possible to fully unspin them from the web of neoconservative lies. The most important lesson to be learned is this: Neoconservatives were wrong about Iraq. They were wrong about every single prediction, recommendation, and every boast. It is now time to stop listening to liars and fools, and start listening to clearheaded and intelligent voices.

I would say now that neither party is on the right path, but that people like John Murtha, Chuck Hagel, Russ Feingold, Chris Shays, etc, are clearly pointing in a better direction than George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, or Donald Rumsfeld. The only thing any of the latter group has been able to offer are platitudes, and the worst kind of demagogic propaganda, accusing those who have made careful and cogent criticisms of the president's policy of being appeasers, and of working for the enemy. Paltalk neocons regurgitate that rhetoric nearly verbatim, seemingly without irony, calling the enemy islamofascists without realizing that their words are very nearly identical to the fascist bile of a half-century ago.
