STING POLICING

AN assistant US attorney from Florida has been arrested for allegedly flying to Michigan to have sex with a five-year-old girl. John D.R. Atchison, 53, was arrested after he participated in internet conversatons with a detective posing as a mother who was interested in letting men have sex with her young daughter.
Catching these rock spiders is a good thing, but the methodology disturbs me.
How coercive and enabling are these entrapment police? How long before 'thought crime' is a reality? How much crime would have actually been committed without the instigation of police?

"entrapment
n. in criminal law, the act of law enforcement officers or government agents inducing or encouraging a person to commit a crime when the potential criminal expresses a desire not to go ahead. The key to entrapment is whether the idea for the commission or encouragement of the criminal act originated with the police or government agents instead of with the "criminal." Entrapment, if proved, is a defense to a criminal prosecution. The accused often claims entrapment in so-called "stings" in which undercover agents buy or sell narcotics, prostitutes' services or arrange to purchase goods believed to be stolen. The factual question is: Would Johnny Begood have purchased the drugs if not pressed by the narc?"

Well, good for eff. He can copy and paste from the internet. whoo hoo!

It wasnt just "thought" the man FLEW from Florida to Michigan!

I do wonder how many of these men would not do more than think about it, if they were not enticed by detectives. Police know how to keep hitting to bring out the behavior they are looking for. Was he the persuer, or the one being persued?

Still, its wrong to have sex with children and this man is definately in the wrong. He took action by getting on the plane. That is what made him the persuer. Being an Assistant US Atty, once he came across the situation, it was his place to turn it over to authorities , not become one of the players.

It's better than I could ever say. I mostly pasted it for the part about the police having to encourage criminal activity even when the potential criminal has espressed a desire to not continue. I should have elaborated on that from the beginning, but, well, I was being lazy.

So, Eff, even if you resist, can I persist and talk you into anything?
Only if you let YOUR curiosity get the best of you, and then it's YOUR responsibility.

This guy done got "stung"! Yea!!!!!

We live in a society in which we always try to blame others for our problems and wrong doings.

I will be glad when this trend ends. I am a staunch advocate for taking personal responsibility for your own actions.

This man did what he did of his own free will. No one forced him to do something he did not want to do. He committed a crime. That's all there is to it. It's no one's fault but his own.

He didn't actually commit a crime. He obviousy INTENDED to, but let's make that distinction very clear, or thought crime could well come about.

Ono, how are you so certain he INTENDED to do a crime? He could have been going there to pray with them and "save their souls". I doubt it, but aren't you acting like the "thought police" yourself by saying it was obvious he intended to do a crime? Think about that!

The wheels of the bus go round and round.........

DETROIT - A federal prosecutor from Florida who authorities say flew to Michigan for a sexual encounter with a 5-year-old girl tried to hang himself in his jail cell Thursday but was stopped in time, the sheriff said.

I'd suggest that attempting suicide would probably be a clue to his guilt or otherwise. but I take your point.

You worthless weak NAMBLA supporting old man.
He's a typical child molesting Democrat

Tries in vain to justify guilt by association. Worthless status remains if same anonymous is the one defending himself.

It's called guilt by association.

Gee whiz! Can we add Republican and Democrat to that?

Don't be such ignoramuses. First of all, this thread is about a MAN who just might create guilt by association in that fact alone. It could have been you? What does being a Democrat or Republican have to do with it? You think he discussed politics with his prey?
