NATIONAL SECURITY, MINUS THE SECURITY

AP:
WASHINGTON Aug 11, 2006 (AP)— While the British terror suspects were hatching their plot, the Bush administration was quietly seeking permission to divert $6 million that was supposed to be spent this year developing new homeland explosives detection technology.

Congressional leaders rejected the idea, the latest in a series of steps by the Homeland Security Department that has left lawmakers and some of the department's own experts questioning the commitment to create better anti-terror technologies.

Homeland Security's research arm, called the Sciences & Technology Directorate, is a "rudderless ship without a clear way to get back on course," Republican and Democratic senators on the Appropriations Committee declared recently.

This is how much the Bush administration cares about transportation security, so much that they want to loot the money that should be spent improving the very bomb detection technology that would protect airlines from attacks like the one thwarted in the UK.

The other night, S_LINK90 tried to hand wave this story away. According to him, we don't know what's going on behind the scenes, and we should just assume that the Bushies are doing the right thing. Does anyone else still trust this cabal of clowns? After Iraq, after Katrina, after every policy they've flubbed, after every real danger they've twisted for partisan gain, do any of you still trust them?

S_LINK90 is a foolish child, like many wingnuts in PT. The problem with linky's attitude is that his explanation works better for him the LESS he knows. Any time your worldview requires you to ignore information or muddy the waters with nonsensical garbage, you need to go out and buy yourself a new worldview.

We are lucky that a solid majority of Americans now no longer thinks the way linky does. Desperate, hardcore wingnuts have been restlessly panting after a boost in Bush's polls that is not coming. Every event that seems like it would give Bush more approval has instead left voters lukewarm to him and his party. Voters are ready for change. And wingnuts are squealing and running for cover like vampires at first light.

Being an informed citizen is a big responsibility, too much of one for a child not yet out of his diapers like slinky. Gee, I wonder which of our Founding Fathers said we should do our best to remain ignorant, because our leaders always know what's best. Stick to banging out dents, slinky. We don't need you.

Do you really think these traitors want to protect the USA? It is their agenda and hopes that there are terrorist attacks. That is how they keep chick shit Americans in their places. They want Americans to be afraid, so therefore, no progress or change will occur. This is why the deterioration of Homeland Security and the attempts to control the National Guard are being pursued with such blatant disregard for state's rights. I, for one, believe in the system of checks and balances. I believe the very brilliant men that built this country knew that there would be traitors trying to break the foundation of our system. People such as those that agree with Bush (I wont mention their names, they make me sick) should be ashamed. Unfortunately, these people have been living in the shadows all their lives because they are chickshit traitor bastards, that have a spine made out of jello. Americans will take back this country!!!

JC thank you for this thread, I knew there had to be something going on.

SLink,, what is it with you? Perhaps you need to take a look at the recent polls. S_link you make assumptions that Bush is to be trusted, that is just plain silly. It is the duty of all American Citizens to remain informed and to question the government of wrong actions. S_Link do you really want to live in a world that one must have a tracking device implanted or perhaps to fly one must subject themselves to searches? Do NOT tell me that it is ok to give up liberties for a false sense of security. I wonder if you had noticed with the UK arrest that all have said those items needed to do as those suspected terrorists were planning is easily accessible in the states? S_link I think the time for blinders has pasted. Time for you to have a wake up call. You really need to start reading and eductaing yourself, especially since it seems you took over Dommie's failed brain child, 2Way. Yes, S_Link even paltalk info is shared, so much for your self imposed security measures huh?

FACETIOUS,, when it comes to national security,i dont think its a good idea to reveal to the public all the details of what we are doing to try and track terrorist activity and to prevent it.
i love the people who fight for the rights of terrorists{the aclu type} and yet at the same time fight our own law enforcement and intell agencys when they are trying to save lives.
to "boil" all this down in simple terms for most to understand,,,if you {america and it allies} are going into a football game against another team {the terrorists},,are you going to give the other team {the terrorists} your game plan?
if you are,, dont plan on winning the game {the fight against terrorism}.
i dont have a problem with giving the government a little room to work in theses times to prevent you or your family or me or my family from being killed in another 911 type disaster.
now claus on the other hand would let thousands be killed and terrorized and he will sit back and be quite happy about the fact that his phone calls are not be listend to.
as he has said in front of everyone in the rooms ,"i will not give up any of my rights or freedoms to prevent another 911 disaster",,,, sad,,,,,.
the thing that should scare all of us is that these types of people may be running our country soon.
im sure you must know and understand, that the terrorists dont play "by the rules".they use our rights and freedoms and exploite them in their behalf and use them against us.
Facetious,,i would give up little of my rights to prevent you from being a victim of terrorism,,,claus would not,if you dont believe me,,,ask him.
i hope you can understand my thoughts on the matter.

Unfortunately, slinky is seemingly incapable of learning lessons. There is no reason to trust this administration to do the rght thing, and the story in this post proves that conclusively. The Bush admin actually TAKES money from homeland security, and slinky still argues that they are doing everything to protect us. Don't you get it, slink? NO, THEY ARE NOT!

As far as surveillance is concerned, LEGAL surveillance is what broke up this latest plot. We object to Bush grabbing ILLEGAL powers. The FISA court is the method for obtaining SECRET warrants to track terrorists, and it works well, as evidenced by how it has worked to stop other attacks. Slink, I feel sad when I see supposed Americans so willing to bow their heads to illegal actions, merely for a little safety. The reason why we say that we won't give away rights to fight terrorists is very simple: WE DON'T HAVE TO. This fight can be won WITHIN THE LAW. And if you give away the idea of the rule of law, then you have nothing left but despotism. It's a good thing most Americans have learned that lesson. I wonder when you will.

I wonder, how many of the countless thousands upon thousands of people who have fought, died, been POWs, ect., for the USA would appreciate that fact that the freedoms they gave so much for would ever be so willingly thrown away in the name of fear. You see, that is why terrorism always wins, because they ALWAYS manage to instill TERROR! Right, wrong, or any different, they win, because citizens will always, at least temporarily, give up all that has been struggled to attain, despite the number of lives that it cost to gain those freedoms and rights to begin with. Before one gives up something so precious, they should consider both the posative and the negative consequences of doing so, and be very cautious in the process. Only the gullible become followers, it takes much more enthusiam, and even healthy suspicion to seek out evidence for any given subject than it does to just follow what you are told, because often times the truthes that we find are very unsavory and end up leaving us with a "bad taste in our mouthes." Not always do we find that htose in power have falsified, embeleshed, or other wise twisted a report that has been given to the American people, but when someone... or many people make it their priority to seek out ALL of the information, and not merely the first story that they are "fed," many times we find that these "leaders" have really pulled some major no-no's! Now is the time that we must each ask ourselves, "Do we allow them to get away with it?" Is what they did deserving of punishment, or was it the best possible solution for the circumstances?" "What will be the consequences of allowing ANY person serving ME in a public office to be allowed to break ANY law merely because I HIRED him/her to speak for ME in MY government?" Personally, I find the consequences of allowing these people to act "above the law," to be an action that is leading this country down a path to which someday it will never recover, but hey, that's just my opinion.

Food for thought.

If Bush and his group of clowns have their way, they will disrespect the decision of the Supreme Court and try other means to convict suspected terrorists and war criminals. Now, that they are slowly releasing people from Gitmo, the true stories of what the USA has been doing to suspected terrorists are hitting the media. I think we need to pass along these human rights stories as much as possible. These people need their stories read and heard. I urge people to post as many human rights stories to their blogs. Especially those stories Iraqi vets , Gitmo prisoners, and civillians caught in this power struggle. Americans need these stories in their faces, they need to be reminded of what their votes or their support of the Bush administration has done to many people and their families.
Invest in printer ink and paper (10 bucks) and spread these stories that might not be read in the rural areas or where proganda plays a part in brainwashing Americans.

A recent article from the Science Christian Monitor:

Is Conspiracy A War Crime?

Benemr Benatta was detained from Sept. of 2001 and released in July of 2006. He was not charged with any crime. After five years, he tells his story:

Michelle said that bush will ...
"try other means to convict suspected terrorists and war criminals."

THANK GOD Bush is trying to convict terrorists and war criminals! I guess you would like to send them to Disney World and then throw them a party? What is wrong with you folks?

Michelle said...

Perhaps us folks are human? The key word here is "suspected", not "convicted." Maybe the AP would like to tell us exactly how long "suspected" terrorists or "suspected" war criminals should be detained? Five years is quite a long time to keep someone imprisoned when they are innocent. AP, in actuality, Bush is not convicting the true perpertrators. Most of the time he is butt buddies with them. Btw, where is Bin?

AnonymousPoster said...

How would YOU know they are innocent? YOU dont know what they have on them that had them detained in the first place. I loathe these people like you who hate anything that has to do with Bush. You complain that he holds supsected terrorists, and if he let them go you would complain he wasnt keeping you safe. You guys are so transparent.

Michelle said...

AP, perhaps we would know if they were innocent or guilty if they were given a trial??? duh. So you loathe people that actually want justice, not revenge? They have a right to a speedy trial , hell, at least a trial within five years! How would we know if they were innocent or guilty? Hello!!! evidence???? AP, it is apparent, the only thing that is transparent here is your brain. No, wait, I should at least wait until you pull your head out of Bush's ass to judge whether your brain is transparent or even there. AP, I think before you judge what I complain about or not, go read some stories of people that were detained in Gitmo, or perhaps you should read some American history. Maybe the Constitution? You should be grateful to those people that spoke up or "complained" about our government. You might not have some of the freedoms that Bush is trying so desperately to take away from you and other U.S. citizens.
