IT'S TIME FOR AMERICA

While reading the news today, I discovered many media outlets confirmed what most of us already knew, that Karl Rove was the leak for Robt. Novak's "outing" of CIA undercover agent Valerie Plame". Novak has finally gone public with this admission now that Rove will not be prosecuted and Bush has reneged on his promise to fire the leaker. The camel's back has been splintered with the burden of weight this administration has placed on it, and each additional straw serves only to bury it so deeply it threatens to entomb it forever. (Replace the words "camel's back" with "US Constitution" or "Justice" or "Common Good" or "American Way" or any number of things Bush has ruined for us.)

It's time to undo what the courts did in placing Bush in office in 2000, to cure what Bush's cancer has done to our country, our rights, our citizens, and the world. This is "our duty", a duty defined succinctly and inescapably in our own Constitution. This is a duty Americans of patriotic and democratic underpinnings, regardless of political persuasion must undertake if our precious and historic republic is to survive and transition into the precepts framed for us so responsibly and so caringly by our founding fathers.

Impeachment and criminal prosecution of Bush and other criminals can and should be pressed in order that the American people can once again put teeth in the words of our constitution and the laws of our land. Bush has made fodder of our laws and our constitution and threatens to destroy the grandest experiment in democracy the world has ever seen. The following meeting in the oval office was documented and reported in December of 2005, and demonstrates just how little respect the President has for our constitution, our laws and our citizens.

Last month, Republican Congressional leaders filed into the Oval Office to meet with President George W. Bush and talk about renewing the controversial USA Patriot Act.

Several provisions of the act, passed in the shell shocked period immediately following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, caused enough anger that liberal groups like the American Civil Liberties Union had joined forces with prominent conservatives like Phyllis Schlafly and Bob Barr to oppose renewal.

GOP leaders told Bush that his hardcore push to renew the more onerous provisions of the act could further alienate conservatives still mad at the President from his botched attempt to nominate White House Counsel Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court.

"I don't give a goddamn," Bush retorted. "I'm the President and the Commander-in-Chief. Do it my way."

"Mr. President," one aide in the meeting said. "There is a valid case that the provisions in this law undermine the Constitution."

"Stop throwing the Constitution in my face," Bush screamed back. "It's just a goddamned piece of paper!"

This is what our president thinks, and each new criminal act he imposes upon the backs of America clearly demonstrate this as fact. So many laws have been broken and ignored, so many rights have been stolen, so much peril has been created, so much freedom has been sacrificed, so much of our security has been wrenched from us, so much of the world's respect has been eliminated, and so much pure and vicious evil has been perpetuated on us and the world from this administration that it will take decades to recover and undo the damage of one out of control administration and its fascist wannabees.

I preach to the choir here, but ask those yet unconvinced to consider what is right for them, for their families, for their neighbors, and for generations yet to arrive on the face of this tattering planet. In a world that is increasingly dangerous in great part because of the crimes of the Bush White House and the rubberstamp Legislature, we cannot afford to allow further damage to our country or the world. If we allow this to happen without sending a very strong message to future leaders of our country that no one is above the laws of our land, we provide the environment, and yes, we encourage the opportunists to carry it even further and more precipitously than Bush has.

We are at a crossroads now, we Americans, and the choices we make will impact the future, as surely as Ben Franklin, Thos. Jefferson, John Adams, George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, and the other founders knew their revolutionary concepts would affect us, right now, and today, in the here and now. Impeachment and subsequent criminal prosecution is a step not taken lightly, but a wholly necessary step to safeguard our future.

Imagine a world without war, imagine a world without hunger, imagine a world where religious beliefs are personal and inviable, where humanity holds forth, where compassion and love are ideals held most high, where freedom reigns supreme across the earth, supported by all. That is the standard America has always held out to the world. That is the great experiment of democracy whose seeds were sown in our own revolutionary times. These are the truths we hold to be self evident, the most precious of our possessions. This is our hope for the world, and this has always been our dream, a dream that is possible, a dream that can be accomplished, a dream that can be the pristine, shining example for the rest of the world to follow and to which to aspire. What we do now, will decide our future, and the future of our children and children's children yet to come.

The link I provide here will provide solid and comprehensive information on what we need to do to realize our dreams. It is the starting point for an enlightened tomorrow. Please Americans, Please Patriots, Please Citizens. Take the time and effort that is our constitutional duty to seek that brighter tomorrow our destiny can provide. Examine it thoroughly, the home page providing links to everything you need to know to get ourselves back on track again to those wonderous and righteous ideals held so dearly, fought for so preciously, esteemed so highly by generations of Americans before us. It's in our hands, in our loving hands, to do the right things. For God's sake, for our sake, for the sake of the United States and the world.
