Logicman has returned, and he's bringing his friend Jive Turkey. Voo has once again lost his gourd, this time over jacquie making an analogy between Bush and a mullah from an Islamic country. Voo is now berating jac because apparently Bush is not identical in every respect to a mullah. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but most of the time, analogies don't need every aspect to be mirrored for the analogy to be meaningful. If I compare a plane to a bird, is the analogy silly because planes don't have feathers and birds aren't made of metal? Yet Voo is now slipping into a bit of ebonic insults rather than making sense. I half expect him to tell jac, "Yo mommas so fat, her hijab is a regular woman's burka!"
As far as I can tell, comapring Bush to a mullah is perfectly defensible. Bush has all but stated that he makes decisions based on his religious faith. A mullah is a political leader who purports to rule as Allah wills. In mullah-run societies, religious law is primary. In America under Bush, we are increasingly seeing religion leaking into governance. From the controversies over creationism in Dover and Kansas, to new regulations that allow churches more chances to campaign openly for candidates before incurring tax penalites, religiously based "law" is looming larger than ever. Bush himself is clearly going with his "gut" on most issues, and his religion is what informs those gut feelings.
Now, granted, Bush is a nominally secular leader of a government based in secularity, but that hardly means that valid comparisons between mullahs and Bush can't be made. I often wonder what it must be like to live in a brain like Voo's, at least as it exists in PalTalk. Five percent of what he's saying is argument, and 95% of it is insults and nastiness. To constantly be looking for technicalities that let me mock and deride people, and to invent reasons to do so when none exist...Sad, very sad.
