SOUTHERN STRATEGY REDUX

I am reposting this for the benefit of geezus claws, my stalker/sparring partner in comments on the "TYPICAL RIGHT WING RACISTS" post. This is the so-called Southern Strategy, an outright and knowing plan to exploit poor southern whites' fears of black civil rights. This is even more apropos to the current controversy over Rev. Jeremiah Wright, since the Republican strategy AGAIN is to exploit whites' fear of blacks. This, my friend geezus, is where you need to go back to to understand the toxic effect Republicans have had on race relations in this country:

Just saw this over at Hullabaloo. This was from an interview with Republican strategist Lee Atwater in 1981. The slime pit Karl Rove crawled out of was filled with sludge invented by Lee Atwater. As you read this, keep in mind the disgusting race-baiting ads used by supporters of Corker against Harold Ford in Tennessee. I apologize for including the crude racial slur Atwater uses, but it's necessary to get the full effect:

You start out in 1954 by saying, "Nigger, nigger, nigger." By 1968 you can't say "nigger" - that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states' rights and all that stuff. You're getting so abstract now [that] you're talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you're talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is [that] blacks get hurt worse than whites.

And subconsciously maybe that is part of it. I'm not saying that. But I'm saying that if it is getting that abstract, and that coded, that we are doing away with the racial problem one way or the other. You follow me - because obviously sitting around saying, "We want to cut this," is much more abstract than even the busing thing, and a hell of a lot more abstract than "Nigger, nigger."

Lee knows what he's talking about. New polls show the ad helped Corker and hurt Ford. Why would that be the case? The answer is simple. In many parts of the South, being a racist doesn't hurt you with voters. Seems like Corker's buddies learned at the feet of the master.

Claus make up your mind. I give you examples of racist Democrats from the past and you tell me it's irrelevant because it was so long ago. Now you're going back to the 60's like I did and you're saying it was the groundwork for a decades long conspiracy. I also see you got your "facts" from a flaming liberal blog, but that's neither here nor there.
Once again ...
Democrat opposition to the Civil Rights Act was substantial enough to literally split the party in two. A whopping 40% of the House Democrats VOTED AGAINST the Civil Rights Act, while 80% of Republicans SUPPORTED it.

Is it SO HARD for you to accept Obama's hidden racism he learned as a protegé from the "Wright Stuff"?

As a side note I wish to add that your bigotry of the South runs as deep as Aunty Kate's. Your need to pigeon hole Southerners as backwoods race hating hillbillys is as "typical" as Obama saying his white Grandmother was "typical"
You really should do your own research instead of grasping at blurps from a blog. Break the cycle Claus, learn to look beyond what the party line is spewing at you.
Remember, I never said Democrats were racist. You said Republicans were, so I countered with a long list of Dems to prove a point. If you wish, we can both compile a list and see who has the longest. I'm betting they're about the same, but for some reason you don't.

Break the cycle son ... Break the cycle

Again you miss the point. The was an excerpt from an INTERVIEW of Lee Atwater, Karl Rove's mentor and author of the Southern Strategy. It has exactly zero to do with what blog it came from, you moron. I could have linked directly to the interview, you halfwit.

The point, if you would bother to use your brain when you read, is that it is Republican STRATEGY to exploit the racist mistrust of southern whites against blacks. This was an interview Atwater gave later in life when he was regretting what he had wrought. Again, zero to do with the blog it came from, you mental midget.

For the last time: THE PARTIES SWITCHED SIDES! Racist southern Dems joined the Republicans, while the Republicans, as noted by their CHIEF STRATEGIST, Lee Atwater, proceeded on a knowing and calculated plan to exploit the racism in southern whites.

When you place your line in the sand, place it WHERE THE PARTIES SWITCHED SIDES, and where the Republicans decided to exploit racism for electoral gain. It's enough of this, you not understanding simple facts of history. I'm getting tired of it.

I guess you would tire of it. I'm kicking your ass with facts.
Obama's mentor is overtly racist and gave Obama the "Wright Stuff"
Jessie Jackson has shown his racism in "Hymietown"

The DEMOCRAT STRATEGY is to be racist but keep it quiet YOU BAFOON. Both sides use it !!! That's my WHOLE POINT!!!
I could go on and on naming name after name, but your STUPID ASS just can't see the Democrap racism because your propaganda has you in a zombie like stupor.
Here's a test .. see if you can pass it, and be honest with yourself ...
Read Obama's speech, and I mean REALLY read it. He says practically ZERO about Rev Wright's racism. He pulls a bait and switch, and you can hardly see it!!! He LITERALLY changes the subject in his speech!!! He starts playing the race card by saying "WE" need to put racism behind us. WE !!! US???
THE SPEECH IS ABOUT HIM!!!!

Claus are you so blind by bigotry that you can't even see what's in front of you?
On this post (and the former post) you have literally tried to lay blame for ALL racism on Republicans and the Southern United States, but yet you IGNORE what's happening right in front of you.

I had hope you could break the cycle of ignorance, but I see you're far gone.

Live happy wallering in your moronic bliss. If you break a fingernail tomorrow, be sure to blame it on a Republican

I found Obama's speech about Pastor Wright powerful and very wise. He is absolutely right that the remnants of racism have persisted up to the end of Jim Crow, and even further.

There is racial mistrust on both sides, but I disagree with you that black anger over racism should somehow be equated with white racism. That's really the main mistake I see people like you making. Whites have been in positions of power, and have used that power to oppress blacks for hundreds of years. And it is by no means over. It is the disingenuous racist like you that wants us to FORGET that racism existed and still exists.

Did you not hear Obama discuss the ways in which black families are denied the ability to do what whites have been able to, build wealth and status over successive generations.

I'm sorry, but we are not so far beyond Jim Crow that we can forget that racism still exists.

The Southern Strategy was a KNOWING and CALCULATED tactic used by Republicans, and is USED UNTO THIS DAY. I'm sorry you're not able to see it when it is implemented, but not all of us are as willfully blind as you.

Republicans use race as a weapon to turn southern whites against blacks, and they are still doing it. Acknowledge that reality, and then maybe we'll have a basis for discussion.
